Position Overview

RGA is seeking an influential, highly visible leader to grow and develop RGA’s business in the US & Latin American Markets. The EVP & Head of US & Latin America Markets will implement a strategic direction along  with a growth mindset to ensure the business unit accomplishes its goals.  The successful candidate should be a strong leader, decision maker and collaborator who understands the business and with drive and build upon RGA’s global identity as the leading global provider of life & health reinsurance and financial solutions.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Set the strategy for US & Latin America Markets in order to grow and develop the business, in accordance with direction from SEVP, Chief Operating Officer. Participate in the development of the over-arching strategy for RGA.  Serve on the Executive Committee for RGA.
  • Manage and take full responsibility for US & Latin America Markets to meet or exceed the financial targets and business objectives for the operation. Ensure agreed upon business development strategies including appropriate sales, marketing, communication plans and pricing strategies are implemented and will result in profitable new business for RGA.
  • Develop strong relationships with the Executive Officers (“C-Suite”) of target client companies to understand their business and lead RGA team to identify solutions in helping clients meet their strategic, financial and operational objectives.
  • Effectively partner with other areas of RGA to ensure all parts of RGA are brought to market to maximize value to RGA. Identify areas to collaborate to minimize redundancy and increase organizational effectiveness.
  • Ensure development of a strong team of reinsurance professionals, loyal to RGA and with a great spirit of client service and engagement. Develop succession plans to ensure smooth transitions in the event of senior level departure.
  • Lead team to identify major trends, new developments, and strategic opportunities and promoting awareness of such across the organization.
  • Represent RGA in its relationships with major customers, bankers, government bodies, professional societies and similar groups. In particular, play an active role representing RGA with the ACLI and similar industry associations.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • 20+ years of significant work experience in different disciplines within the direct insurance or reinsurance industry with at least 15+ years of proven management expertise building and leading professional teams
  • Proven ability to successfully manage teams with layers of management
  • Proven ability to deal/negotiate with large (complex) clients
  • Experience of operation as a general manager or a business unit leader within a large company
  • Proven ability to work in matrix environment, at times recognizing the greater importance of Enterprise objectives relative to local business unit objectives
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Finance/Accounting or related degree.  Professional designation (i.e. Fellow of Society of Actuaries) or Masters in Business Administration preferred.

  • Clear, proven leadership skills, including both motivational abilities and strength of character to deal with conflicts and management of diverse senior individuals
  • Proven track record of successfully managing the P&L and growing earnings
  • Significant financial and business acumen, including ability to think strategically while managing to shorter-term requirements 
  • Effective communicator (in differing styles) with all levels of local and global staff, clients and market influencers. In particular the role requires regular interaction with all local staff and with senior executives globally 
  • A high level of personal accountability, integrity, transparency and honesty
  • Activities require the balancing of a number of objectives within a given time frame by drawing on various resources.  Identification and weighting of new and diverse consequences using recognized criteria.  Adaptation of methods to obtain an appropriate result in an unprecedented situation
