Position Overview

The VP, Head of Strategy will lead the strategic planning process for US/LA Markets, key initiatives and oversee the execution and implementation of the work. Leverage business knowledge to analyze, support and execute strategy in driving the organization towards results through organic growth or acquisition.

Responsibilities

  • Influence and help craft the long-term strategic positioning of each segment as well as US/LA markets.
  • Lead the annual strategic planning process, by aligning with each segment strategic plan along with stablishing a plan for US/LA markets overall. Manage tier 1 process and budget alignment to strategic goals on a year by year basis.
  • Serve as a trusted partner and advisor by providing thought leadership and strategic insights on all matters related to the development of annual plans & business strategies.
  • Prepare presentations and lead projects for critical stakeholders who are responsible for the long-term growth and success of the business.
  • Partner in the development and prioritization of the long-term strategic direction of US/LA markets.
  • Understand current business execution and identify needs and areas of opportunity while making recommendations that could lead to new businesses and/or acquisitions.
  • Partner and lead business process with client, M&A, HR, etc..to ensure plan and integration into business is successful and aligned with strategy.
  • Effectively communicate strategy to broader US/LA market teams as well as Executive committee members.
  • Align Strategy to cross functional, Global organization.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Accountable ownership in implementation and execution of assigned projects.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:      
•    Bachelor’s degree in related field
•    5-7 years of experience in insurance/reinsurance field interfacing with and influencing senior /executive  
•    7+ years of strategy, management consulting or innovation experience
•    Experience in financial services, the insurance sector, or a premier strategy consulting firm
•    Demonstrated ability to be both strategic and operational 
•    Forward-thinking and conceptual with the ability to execute on multiple projects concurrently

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•    Provide leadership and management to the strategy team
•    Identify key strategic issues and opportunities for the US/LA Markets leadership team
•    Lead and develop the process around strategic plan metrics and measuring strategic performance
•    Effectively make presentations (both in writing and in person) to Senior Management 
•    Engage in internal consulting activities 
•    Challenge US/LA market leaders to drive shareholder value
•    Highly collaborative with strong facilitation and listening skills
•    Exceptional ability to organize thoughts and professionally developed presentations
•    Working knowledge of pricing, valuation, and financial reporting across a broad spectrum of coverage and countries
•    Advanced knowledge of life product design and pricing, as well as insurance markets dynamics 
•    Strong understanding of accounting, regulatory, capital regimes in North America and Latin American markets.
•    Advanced knowledge of valuation and financial reporting for life insurance and reinsurance companies 
•    Ability to work well in an environment with multiple concurrent projects, cyclical work flow and, demanding time frames
•    People management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates, including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility
•    Advanced level of research, analytical, and problem solving skills 
•    Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received
•    Advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into viable and profitable solutions 
•    Advanced level of change management skills
•    Ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines 
•    Advanced persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to resolve issues/problems
