Position Overview

The VP Legal Entity Controller will lead and manage the legal entity reporting teams, responsible for reporting to regulators and other internal and external parties, ensuring that appropriate resources, governance, controls and oversight are in place and functioning properly. The VP Legal Entity Controller should have, or develop, a strong understanding of accounting/regulatory standards and will work cross functionally to consult on how transactions will be reported to regulators.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the legal entity reporting teams ensuring timely and accurate reporting and compliance filings
  • Provide accounting and regulatory subject matter expertise in supporting business development activities, special projects and strategic initiatives
  • Remain current on latest changes in statutory and U.S. GAAP reporting to ensure they are correctly and consistently reported in the legal entity financial statements
  • Work with other functions to shape and understand the purpose, goals and objectives of the legal entities. Understand the products, flow of business, accounting methodology and procedures related to internal and external transactions in the legal entities
  • Lead efforts with other functional areas to achieve efficient, effective and consistent accounting and reporting practices and procedures, ensuring appropriate controls
  • Lead and manage group capital activities
  • Manage the audit process with external and internal auditors and manage regulatory reviews/exams
  • Review quarterly results, including explanations of variance from expectation
  • Lead plan/budget reviews at a legal entity level, provides appropriate analyses
  • Participate in special projects 

Requirements

Education and Experience

Education

  • CPA certification
  • 12+ years accounting or auditing experience w/ experience dealing with auditors

Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Basic Word, intermediate Excel and SQL/Query skills
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance accounting
  • Expert knowledge of accounting/finance, including GAAP, statutory and SEC requirements and expert ability to define and apply accounting guidelines
  • Highly advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received
  • Highly advanced investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Expert ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives
  • Advanced skills in customer relationship management and change management
  • Highly advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions
  • Expert ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously
  • Expert ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines
  • Highly advanced persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers
  • Expert ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies
  • Advanced knowledge of broad business practices

The general pay range for this position is $143,245 -$213,390 per year.  Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.  In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles, and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan.  RGA maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
